I am Thorsten Zobel, a landscape and nature photographer from Frankfurt am Main, Germany. In my work, I combine my love of nature with my passion for photography. From the hills of the Taunus right on my doorstep to the landscapes and night skies of Europe I discover on my journeys — and back home in Frankfurt, where there’s always something worth photographing.
My work
What I look for in my photography is capturing the character of a place I visit and the mood the light created at that specific moment. Photography is always only a snapshot of a landscape at a specific point in time, and that snapshot is shaped by the photographer’s perception. What feels right, what looks balanced, what carries a certain atmosphere. My goal is to bring that feeling into the image and not just document a scene, but reflect how it felt to be there.
Post-processing is part of that reflection. It gives me the opportunity to guide the viewer’s eye and bring out the atmosphere I experienced on location — not to alter reality, but to express how I perceived it. My images are, in that sense, always an impression of a personal moment.
Something that matters to me when I’m out shooting — whether in the Taunus, the Alps, or somewhere along the coast of Europe — is to leave every place exactly as I found it. In my opinion, as a landscape photographer, you have a certain responsibility to protect the places you photograph, so that others can experience them the same way you did. More
I publish my work and post regularly on social media. In my opinion, however, the big platforms have a complicated relationship with artists and their work, which is why you’ll mainly find me on newer platforms that take a different approach to content and artistic work. You can find me on Mastodon, Cara and foto currently. I’d love to hear from you there!
